Common issues and how to fix them, before you need to message me.
Who runs this / why does it exist?
I'm a homebrewer in Norway (I run CraftLab, a homebrewing supply shop my family started just 2 months ago — we're small and still growing, not a big company). My own Plaato Airlock went dead when Plaato shut down their cloud in November 2025, so I built this free, open-source replacement server (based on DarkJaeger/open-plaato-keg) to keep using it — and decided to open it up for others in the same situation. My Airlock or Keg isn't showing up on my dashboard
Check these three things:
1. Auth Token — must be exactly 32 characters, only 0-9 and a-f
2. Host / Port — Host: airlock.craftlab.no, Port: 1234 (exactly, no https://, no extra spaces)
3. WiFi — Plaato devices only work on 2.4GHz networks, not 5GHz
Both Airlock and Keg use the same setup process — the server figures out which one you have automatically.
I lost my token / bookmark
No problem — reset your device (yellow key or fridge magnet on the Reset hole) and reconnect it the same way. Since the token is tied to your device's hardware ID, it comes back automatically. You'll see it again on the setup screen at 192.168.4.1.
Data isn't updating / looks frozen
Devices report roughly every 5 minutes. Check the status pill on your dashboard — if it says "no recent data", your device likely lost WiFi connection. Try power-cycling it. Also check the server status page in case the server itself had a hiccup. (Keg pages show a live snapshot rather than a graph, so "frozen" numbers there just mean the keg hasn't reported anything new yet.)
I have more than one device (Airlock, Keg, or both) — can I see them all in one place?
Yes. On your dashboard, scroll to "+ Add another device" and paste the token of your second (third, fourth...) device. This gives you a new, longer link that shows all your devices together. Important: this list lives in the link itself, not on our servers — so every time you add a device, save the new link and replace your old bookmark with it.
Can I connect this to Brewfather or Grainfather?
Yes, for Airlock devices — on your dashboard, scroll down to Integrations, paste your Brewfather custom stream URL or Grainfather community URL, and save. Data forwards at most once every 15 minutes. Note: Brewfather's Plaato integration requires a Brewfather Premium/paid plan on their end. (Keg devices don't support this yet.)
Is this free? What about my data?
Completely free, no account or subscription needed. Donations on Ko-fi are optional and only help cover server costs. Your data is just fermentation readings (temperature, bubble count) — nothing sensitive, and only visible to whoever has your personal token link.
This is a hobby project — will it stay online?
I use this exact server for my own Airlock too, so I have a personal reason to keep it running. That said, it's a one-person project with no guarantees — no dedicated support team, no SLA, just a regular VPS with backups. If I ever decide to shut it down, I'll post a notice here at least 3 months in advance so you have time to export your data or move on. Uptime is publicly tracked — see the status page linked above.
