Common issues and how to fix them, before you need to message me.
Who runs this / why does it exist?
I'm a homebrewer in Norway (I run CraftLab, a homebrewing supply shop my family runs — we're small and still growing, not a big company). My own Plaato Airlock went dead when Plaato shut down their cloud in November 2025, so I built this free, open-source replacement server (based on DarkJaeger/open-plaato-keg) to keep using it — and decided to open it up for others in the same situation. My Airlock or Keg isn't showing up on my dashboard
Check these three things:
1. Auth Token — must be exactly 32 characters, only 0-9 and a-f
2. Host / Port — Host: airlock.craftlab.no, Port: 1234 (exactly, no https://, no extra spaces)
3. WiFi — Plaato devices only work on 2.4GHz networks, not 5GHz
Both Airlock and Keg use the same setup process — the server figures out which one you have automatically.
I lost my token / bookmark
No problem — reset your device (yellow key or fridge magnet on the Reset hole) and reconnect it the same way. Since the token is tied to your device's hardware ID, it comes back automatically. You'll see it again on the setup screen at 192.168.4.1.
Data isn't updating / looks frozen
Devices report roughly every 5 minutes. Check the status pill on your dashboard — if it says "no recent data", your device likely lost WiFi connection. Try power-cycling it. Also check the server status page in case the server itself had a hiccup. (Keg pages show a live snapshot rather than a graph, so "frozen" numbers there just mean the keg hasn't reported anything new yet.)
I have more than one device (Airlock, Keg, or both) — can I see them all in one place?
Yes. On your dashboard, scroll to "+ Add another device" and paste the token of your second (third, fourth...) device. This gives you a new, longer link that shows all your devices together. Important: this list lives in the link itself, not on our servers — so every time you add a device, save the new link and replace your old bookmark with it.
Is there a clean, view-only dashboard I can pin on my phone?
Yes — open your regular dashboard at /my and click "👁 Clean view" near the top. It opens a separate /view link with just your live data (percentage left, temperature, ABV, bubbles/min) and no settings forms — good for pinning to your home screen or sharing so someone can check status without being able to change anything. It supports multiple devices on one link the same way /my does, has a light/dark theme toggle, and switches to a multi-column grid automatically once you add more than one device.
How do I find my own widget link?
Open your regular dashboard at /my?token=YOUR_TOKEN (the link you saved when you first set up your device). Near the top of the page you'll see a box titled "📺 Want a clean view for a TV, tablet, or your own site?" with your personal widget link already filled in and a Copy button next to it — no typing required.
If you'd rather build it yourself, the format is:

Just replace YOUR_TOKEN with your own device's 32-character token (the same one from your /my or setup link). If you have more than one device, use ?tokens=TOKEN_ONE,TOKEN_TWO instead (note the plural "tokens" and the comma).
How do I embed the widget on my own website?
Paste this into your site's HTML, wherever you want the dashboard to appear, and replace YOUR_TOKEN with your own device token:

That's the whole thing — no account, script, or approval needed on our end. Adjust width and height to fit the space on your page; the widget itself is responsive inside whatever box you give it. If your site builder doesn't have a raw-HTML block, look for a setting called "Embed", "Custom HTML", or "iframe" — most website builders (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, etc.) have one.
How do I hide the CraftLab logo on the widget?
Add &logo=0 to the end of your widget link. For example:

That removes the small "Powered by CraftLab" line from the bottom of the widget. It's on by default; this parameter is the only way to turn it off, there's no setting elsewhere for it.
How do I show multiple kegs or airlocks at once, like a taproom wall?
Use ?tokens= (plural) with your device tokens separated by commas, on either /view or /widget:

As soon as there's more than one token, the page automatically switches from a single stacked card to a responsive grid — side by side on a wide screen or TV, back to one column on a phone. If you only have one device but still want the grid layout (for example, to leave room for more later), add &mode=grid as well.
By default the cards appear in the order you listed the tokens. If you want a specific order regardless of how the tokens are written, add &order=TOKEN_TWO,TOKEN_ONE,TOKEN_THREE listing the tokens in the order you want them to appear.
How do I switch between light and dark theme?
On /my or /view, click the 🌙 Dark / ☀️ Light link near the top of the page — it flips the theme instantly and updates your address bar so the choice is saved in the link itself. To set a theme directly (useful for the widget, which has no toggle to click since it has no menus at all), add &theme=light or &theme=dark to any /my, /view, or /widget link, for example:

Leaving it out defaults to dark.
Can I switch between metric and imperial units?
Yes — on /my or /view, click the 📏 Metric / 📏 Imperial link near the top of the page, right next to the theme toggle, to flip between °C/liters and °F/gallons. It updates your address bar the same way the theme toggle does, so the choice is saved in the link itself. To set it directly (useful for the widget, which has no toggle to click since it has no menus at all), add &units=imperial or &units=metric to any /my, /view, or /widget link, for example:

Leaving it out defaults to metric, same as before this existed. This only changes how numbers are displayed on the page — it doesn't change what your device reports or how readings are stored.
Can I just open the widget link on a TV or tablet without embedding it anywhere?
Yes — you don't need a website to use it. Just type or open the widget link directly in the browser on the TV, tablet, phone, or computer you want to use, for example:

It's a normal web page, so it works the same way in any browser on Android, iOS, or desktop — nothing to install from an app store. Many smart TVs and tablets let you save a web page to the home screen or set it as a browser bookmark for quick access; check your device's browser menu for an "Add to Home Screen" or "Pin" option.
How do I turn on notifications for a low keg, a leak, or fermentation problems?
Open your dashboard at /my?token=YOUR_TOKEN and scroll to the 🔔 Notifications section on the device card. Tick the alert types you want, then click Enable Notifications — your browser will ask permission to show notifications; click Allow. That's it, no extra app or account.
Available alerts: keg running low and possible leak for kegs; temperature out of range and fermentation stalled for airlocks. Click Send Test Notification any time to check it's working without waiting for a real alert.
How do I set the low-keg or temperature thresholds?
In the same 🔔 Notifications section on /my: for a keg, enter a percentage in Low keg threshold % (defaults to 10% if left blank) and click Save Threshold. For an airlock, enter Min temp °C and/or Max temp °C and click Save Thresholds — leave either blank to not alert on that side of the range.
Do I need to install an app to get these notifications?
No — it uses your browser's own built-in Web Push notifications, the same technology behind notifications from any other website you've allowed. No app, no email, no Telegram, no account. It only works while your browser supports it (all modern Android, iOS 16.4+, and desktop browsers do) and you've clicked Allow when asked.
Notifications aren't showing up — is there anything different on iPhone?
Yes — this is the one platform with an extra step, due to an iOS restriction, not something specific to this site.
Android and desktop (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.): notifications work right away — just click Enable Notifications on your /my dashboard and allow the permission prompt.
iPhone/iPad (Safari): Safari only allows push notifications for sites added to the Home Screen, not for pages open in a regular Safari tab. To fix it:
1. Open your dashboard link in Safari
2. Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen
3. Close Safari, then open the dashboard from the new icon on your Home Screen (not from Safari itself)
4. Tap Enable Notifications from there — the same permission prompt will now appear
This needs iOS 16.4 or later. On older iOS versions, web push notifications aren't available from Apple at all — there's no workaround for that on our end.
Can I calibrate my Keg's weight sensor?
Yes — on your /my dashboard, under Calibrate scale: empty the keg fully and tap Tare to zero it, or place a known weight on the scale and enter it under Calibrate with known weight for better accuracy. You can also manually set Empty keg weight and Max keg volume under Keg settings if you know them.
Can I add my beer style, OG/FG, ABV, or tap date to a Keg?
Yes — on your /my dashboard, under Brew details, fill in beer style, keg date, OG and FG. ABV is calculated automatically from OG/FG using the standard homebrewing formula and saved for you — no separate button needed.
Can I keep a history of past kegs or fermentations?
Yes — on your /my dashboard, each device card has a 📦 Batch History section. Click Archive This Keg (or Archive This Fermentation for an airlock) to save a permanent record of the current cycle: beer style, tap date, OG/FG/ABV, and a summary of temperature and volume for kegs; temperature range and peak bubble activity for airlocks.
For a keg, archiving also clears the beer style, date, OG, FG, and ABV fields so you can fill in the next keg — your tap name, scale calibration, and Grainfather/Brewfather settings are left untouched since those belong to the physical setup, not the beer. Archiving an airlock doesn't clear anything, since there's nothing beer-specific stored on it yet.
Every past archive stays listed right on the card, newest first — there's no separate history page to dig through.
Can I export my readings or batch history as CSV or JSON?
Yes — no login or extra tool needed, just click a link. On your /my dashboard:
Raw readings (temperature, bubbles/min, weight): a CSV / JSON export link sits right under the live chart on each card, using the same data shown there.
Batch history (your archived cycles): a CSV / JSON export link sits under the history list in the 📦 Batch History section.
Both download straight from your browser — handy for keeping your own long-term records or opening in a spreadsheet. If you'd rather build the link yourself: https://airlock.craftlab.no/api/airlocks/YOUR_TOKEN/log/csv (or /kegs/, or /history/csv, or swap csv for nothing to get JSON).
Can I connect this to Brewfather or Grainfather?
Yes, for Airlock devices — on your dashboard, scroll down to Integrations, paste your Brewfather custom stream URL or Grainfather community URL, and save. You can also set the temperature unit (Celsius/Fahrenheit) and specific gravity used, instead of fixed defaults. Data forwards at most once every 15 minutes. Note: Brewfather's Plaato integration requires a Brewfather Premium/paid plan on their end. (Keg devices don't support this yet.)
Is this free? What about my data?
Completely free, no account or subscription needed. Donations on Ko-fi are optional and only help cover server costs. Your data is just fermentation readings (temperature, bubble count) — nothing sensitive, and only visible to whoever has your personal token link.
This is a hobby project — will it stay online?
I use this exact server for my own Airlock too, so I have a personal reason to keep it running. That said, it's a one-person project with no guarantees — no dedicated support team, no SLA, just a regular VPS with backups. If I ever decide to shut it down, I'll post a notice here at least 3 months in advance so you have time to export your data or move on. Uptime is publicly tracked — see the status page linked above.
